March 15, 2020: Update from Director Clifford Skagen
Dear Crosslake Community School Families and Staff,
The events over the past week have been unprecedented. At 10 a.m. this morning, Governor Walz announced that all Minnesota schools will be closing by Wednesday, March 18. This measure is being taken to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Due to planning and preparation needed related to the COVID-19 situation, Crosslake Community Schools (CCS) is extending the students’ Spring Break by two days through March 17.
Staff members will report for duty March 16 and 17 for planning days. Even though we have this extended break, CCS will be open from 8:00 to 3:30 to pick up personal belongings and medications. We ask that you abide by the Minnesota Department of Health’s guidelines for social distancing and do not use this time to socialize.
As directed by Governor Walz, CCS will then be closed to students Wednesday, March 18 through March 27, 2020. Staff will use this time to diligently plan and create distance learning programs for our students. We are also identifying additional needs of our families may have including meals and childcare for first responders and healthcare workers.
Beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, CCS will resume school. We will work with the State of Minnesota in the coming days to plan how CCS will best deliver this instruction. We will be providing you with many more details about how we will continue to provide our students with high-quality education and how we will address safety and other essential issues.
The good news in this difficult time is that because CCS already offers online learning, we are prepared to offer effective distance learning for our students. Keeping our students safe and secure, while providing a high-quality education is our utmost priority. We believe the CCS community will pull together during these challenging times to help one another with flexibility and understanding.
We will send additional communication as more information becomes available and we finalize details. We appreciate your flexibility and will do our best to try and provide all children with equitable educational opportunities. We will continue to seek guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education on how this decision will impact the remainder of the school year.
Sincerely,
Clifford Skagen, M.A.Ed. Executive Director
